Re -£1,000,000 Re-Merchandising Sale

Well the dust has now settled and we are able to take stock of the event from a more relaxed perspective.

We knew that we were setting everyone a tall order when we committed to the event at such short notice in the summer. However, the sale for us was a resounding success.
It allowed us to:
  • clear out the excess stock that had built up because of the road works in the High Street,
  • improve Customer loyalty by the use of the exclusive invitations,
  • heighten our profile particularly with the local office population who perhaps in the past might have been infrequent visitors,
  • source and sell special sales lines which restored some of the margin,
  • build up Staff teamwork and morale by the focus and success of the sale.

The event would not have been such a success had it not been for the “Daniel Lynch” approach. From the closure of the store to prepare, through the ticketing and window banners internally and the advertising externally, a number of our preconceptions were successfully challenged.

Given the unique nature of the event, the final piece in the jigsaw was the pocket dynamo that is Melvyn Dunn. From the moment he came into the store, his stamina and unfailing good humour were infectious and I have no doubt that the success of the sale hinged considerably on Melvyn’s contribution.
